We sat down with the Kontis family: Jeannie, Adam, and their son Alex to learn more about their journey, their craftsmanship, and what sets their sheds apart.
A Family Legacy
Fox Country Sheds has been a cornerstone of shed construction since 1998. Adam and Jeannie took over the business in 2008 from the original owner, Mr. Fox, who was looking to retire and pursue mission work. “We were really looking for a business to invest in,” Adam shares, “and this opportunity allowed us to grow something special.” Today, their son Alex is also a key part of the team, making it truly a family-run operation.
Evolution in Shed Building
When the family took over, the business primarily focused on vinyl-sided sheds. Over time, they expanded their offerings to include painted wood sheds and more sophisticated designs. Jeannie notes, “Homeowners are now investing more in their sheds, not just as storage but as an extension of their outdoor living spaces. We’re seeing demand for larger windows, nicer doors, and even dormers to make these structures blend seamlessly with their homes.”
Reaching Far and Wide
Fox Country Sheds doesn’t just serve local retail customers; they serve a wide dealer network as well. They have delivered sheds as far as California and even shipped kits to Haiti for mission projects. Adam explains, “We’ll deliver anywhere the customer is willing to pay shipping for, including to our various dealer’s locations. We’ve sent sheds to Florida, South Carolina, Michigan, and beyond. It’s a logistical challenge, but we make it happen.”
DIY Kits and Professional Assembly
While many customers opt for fully assembled sheds, Fox Country Sheds also offers DIY kits. These kits are pre-built to a significant extent, making it easier for homeowners or shed dealers to handle the assembly themselves. “We provide all the necessary components, and while it’s not as simple as IKEA furniture, we ensure that anyone with some construction know-how can put it together,” says Jeannie.
Innovative Trends and Styles
One of the latest trends they’ve observed is the demand for darker colored sheds and black windows. “We’re seeing a shift from the classic white farmhouse look to more modern, darker colors,” Jeannie points out. (Be sure to check out our new selection of black windows!)
A Nod to Innovation
Despite their traditional roots, Fox Country Sheds is not shy about embracing new technology. They have recently integrated a 3D design software on their website, enabling customers to customize their sheds and see a virtual representation before making a purchase. This tool also includes an augmented reality feature, allowing users to visualize their shed in their own backyard.
She Sheds Are a Thing
Whether it’s a basic storage solution or an elaborate she shed, Fox Country Sheds caters to a variety of needs. “Every woman likes to have their own space, close to home but separate,” Jeannie says. They’ve also seen an uptick in demand for sheds that serve as home offices, classrooms for homeschooling, and more, especially since the pandemic.
A Memorable Project
One of their most memorable projects involved shipping three large sheds to California. “We had to shrink-wrap them securely enough to travel across the country without parts damaged or missing. It was a challenge, but everything arrived perfectly,” Adam recalls. This project highlights their dedication to quality and customer satisfaction, no matter the distance.
